Student Movement

Following His Teaching

Growing up between cultures isn’t always easy.

As young people in the Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church in the UK, we’re navigating school, university, friendships and making life changing decisions whilst learning what it means to live as an Orthodox Christian in today’s modern world.

That’s where JSOSM comes in.

The Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Student Movement UK is a community for young people aged 13-21.

We strive to help our students grow and flourish in their faith, build genuine friendships and discover what it means to follow Christ in everyday life.

Guided by HG Issac Mor Osthatheos Thirumeni and our Vice President Fr Lilu Varghese, JSOSM exists to help young people deepen their relationship with Christ, build lasting friendships and flourish in their Orthodox faith in today’s world.

What we do

Manhar — Our biggest event of the year.

Every year, students from across the UK gather together for a weekend of enlightenment, or known as Manhar in our liturgical language of Aramaic.

It is a place to grow in faith, build lasting friendships and learn about our liturgy and Syriac heritage.

Bible study — Growing together in God’s Word.

Our online Bible studies are a chance to ask questions, explore Scripture, and discover how God’s Word speaks into everyday life.

Whether you’re new to the Bible or have been reading it for years, everyone is welcome.

Choir – “Sing to the Lord, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day.”
Psalms 96:2

Our online choir sessions bring together young people from across the country to learn hymns in malayalam, english and suryani.

Whether you are a complete beginner or seasoned singer, there is a place for you.
